Mikey’s Hug Deli
Mikey’s Hug Deli was envisioned for Burners wanting to embrace the joy of exchanging compliments for hugs. Since 2006, Mikey’s Hug Deli has reached audiences across the world and a frequent establishment along the boardwalk south of the Santa Monica pier, and most notably between Esplanade and the Man along 9 o’clock.
The concept is as follows:
One person plays the role of the employee. The other, the customer. The customer orders a hug from the menu. Before the customer receives his/her order, he/she has to pay 2 compliments for each hug to the employee behind the counter.
For example, some random couple stops. The girl plays the role of employee. After the guy orders the hug, he is not going to give a light compliment. No. He will dig deep and come up with two from the heart. She on her side will feel the beauty in his words and appreciate it. She will reciprocate with meaningful hug. And now there is a deeper connection between the two of them. So the compliments are the glue that holds everything together.
